PIERS MACKENZIE
ABOUT
Born in Hong Kong and raised in Perth and Adelaide, Australia, Piers MacKenzie has extensive experience across theatre, film, and television. His career highlights include a 32-show run of A Midsummer Night's Dream in Stratford-upon-Avon, followed by a UK and European tour of Twelfth Night. He gained recognition for his role in the Offie-nominated Immersive Frankenstein and in Artificial Ignorance at the Adelaide Fringe, where his exceptional ability to multi-role attracted significant attention. This skill ultimately led him to one of the biggest shows of the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, TERF.
In TERF, Piers portrayed Daniel Radcliffe and took on multiple other roles, including key figures from J.K. Rowling’s past, such as her editor, ex-husband, and father. Performed at the Assembly Rooms Ballroom, the play, written and directed by Joshua Kaplan (Tokyo Vice, Designated Survivor) and produced by Emmy-nominated Cambra Overend (Oslo), garnered widespread media attention, with over 200 articles, TV spots, and press releases. The Hollywood Reporter suggested it may be the next Baby Reindeer. The show won the Somewhere For Us: Fringe Award, and All Edinburgh Theatre praised Piers’ performance, noting, "The performances behind the Golden Trio are phenomenal, Piers MacKenzie (Daniel) embodying the quirky, snappish, sibling-like relationship. MacKenzie also plays several figures from Jo’s past, including her editor, ex-husband, and father, flitting from one character to the next with precision."
In 2023, Piers was nominated for Broadway World’s Best Leading Performer for his role as the titular character in Midnight Circle’s production of The Picture of Dorian Gray. He recently starred in the Indian feature film Little Hearts, currently in cinemas worldwide.
His next project, Courier, started as a 10-minute scratch performance at the Blueroom Theatre last year, where it received excellent reviews. Over the past year, he has expanded it into a 60-minute production through an intensive developmental process, aimed at honing his skills and knowledge as a writer, creator, and performer.
